TRANSFORMING LORRAINE ELEMENTARY INTO A 21ST CENTURY LEARNING HUB
Lorraine Elementary (BPS #72) was originally built in 1927 and underwent a major transformation as part of Buffalo Public Schools' Capital Improvement Project.
Young + Wright Architectural worked closely with the District to refine the design, ensuring it addressed the needs of the school and surrounding community, and preserved the building’s historic charm. A standout addition to the building was the new library, designed around a "Learning Tree" theme, bringing the nature indoors. Other key elements of this project included a new front entrance to enhance curb appeal, and the upgraded auditorium stage equipment.
The renovation successfully blended historic preservation with modern design, creating a vibrant 21st- century learning environment. The newly updated spaces now better serve the needs of the students and the community, while honoring the school’s rich history.
