REVITALIZING BUFFALO’S HISTORIC CURTISS BUILDING INTO A FIVE-STAR BOUTIQUE HOTEL

The Harlow C. Curtiss Building, constructed in 1912, is a landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places as one of the largest terra cotta structures of it’s time in the downtown Buffalo area. The building was purchased in 2002 with the vision of transforming it into a luxury boutique hotel.

Young + Wright Architectural led the renovation, beginning with a full interior demolition while preserving the building’s historic terra cotta shell. Key design elements included recreating the original cornice, rebuilding windows to match the historic design, and installing exterior lighting to highlight the intricate facade.

The renovation resulted in a one-of-a-kind luxury boutique hotel, setting a new standard for hospitality in Buffalo. The $20 million project features 68 ultra-luxurious rooms, a full-service restaurant (Chez Ami), Vue Rooftop Lounge, and Harlow Spa
