BUILDING PLAY + COMMUNITY: A PLAYGROUND DESIGNED FOR ALL AGES + ABILITIES
As part of the 2022 Capital Improvement Project, Cassadaga Valley Central School District sought to create a much-needed playground for students in grades K-5 that focused on inclusivity for all students.
Young + Wright Architectural designed a new playground to support both daytime academic needs and after-school hour activity. The playground was split into two distinct age group zones with color differentiation. For the younger age group, there were imaginative play areas like sandboxes, wheel and car structures. For the older children, more mental and physical challenges were introduced through rope and obstacle courses. To further promote inclusivity, key elements were added into the play areas including musical components, and other sensory features.
The new playground offers a dynamic, accessible space that encourages creative play and physical activity during both school hours and beyond.
