THE REVIVAL OF RCSD’S FRANKLIN 1928 AUDITORIUM
Rochester City School District and Young + Wright Architectural worked together to transform the Franklin Educational Campus’s 1928 building into a functional, modern space, all while keeping its timeless charm.
The heart of the project focused on the 12,000 SF auditorium, a grand 2,200-seat space that required a delicate balance of restoration and modernization. The design team meticulously restored original details, including textiles, light fixtures, and ornate plasterwork, bringing back the look and feel intended by the original architect. Another layer of this project was ensuring that the auditorium was ADA-compliant, which included restoring the balcony and adding accessible seating and stage access. Additional improvements to the acoustics, theatrical lighting, and sound systems were also accounted for.
This project resulted in a revitalized auditorium that honors its storied past while offering a modern state-of-the-art experience for all patrons.
